Term: VR vs. IRL

Opdateret: 26. nov. 2019

Let me first clarify that this is not a battle between to platforms. This is an understanding of what the two terms include and how they differentiate from one another.

VR

VR stands for Virtual reality. the term is used to describe a three-dimensional, computer-generated environment which can be explored and interacted with by a person. VR is when computer technology is used to create a simulated environment. Unlike traditional user interfaces, VR places the user inside an experience. Instead of viewing at a stationary screen, the user gets a pair of VR glasses and are immersed, and able to interact within a 3D worlds. By simulating as many senses as possible, such as vision, hearing, touch (sometimes even smell depending on the system), the computer is transformed into a gatekeeper to an artificial world.

IRL

IRL stands for in real life, which indicates that we’re talking about our normal, everyday life and not the digital lives we lead online. The teams mean to point out that something isn’t happening in the environment where it’s being said, or that it’s not the way it seems online, on TV or another media platform.

Argumentet reality

AR is a term for both worlds. this can be described as a coin and both sides have something to do with the other side. its shorty describes as a game map layered on top of your own world and is often used as filters such as in snap-chat, pokemon go and when your own camera is allowing a viewpoint manipulated in realtime. according to www.marxentlabs.com (26.11.2019).
